Functional Definition: 

Community Human Services (CHS) is looking for a responsible custodian to maintain and upkeep multiple facilities within the City of Pittsburgh. CHS empowers individuals and families to live in stable housing, connect to community resources, build relationships, and access quality food. The external and internal appearance of a building reflects a dignified and positive atmosphere for our residents and staff. It is important for a custodian to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning and tidying the premises, as well as reporting any maintenance or safety issues. The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodian role focused on building upkeep and safety and able to work efficiently to cover a large space. They will have good physical endurance to cover a large space. A keen eye for detail and diligence are also imperative. Full time employment benefits include; Health, Dental, Vision, Generous PTO and Holidays. Life Insurance/STD/LTD, and 401(k) if working over 20 hours per week. The position pays an hourly rate of $12.00

Responsibilities and Duties: 

1.    Ensure spaces are prepared by taking out the trash and recycling, tidying furniture and dusting/cleaning surfaces, and wash windows

2.    Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets

3.    Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables (e.g. soap and paper products

4.    Maintain outer premises by sweeping, cleaning entrances and general upkeep, removing litter, shoveling snow, salting, and general upkeep

5.    Monitor and report damage to buildings to Director of Maintenance following agency protocols

6.    Clean and prepare residential units after move-outs following agency protocols

7.    Safely follow agency and OSHA requirements, including but not limited to using ladders, lifting items, and using personal protective equipment as needed

Minimum Qualifications: 


·         Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role

·         Must possess the ability to express sensitivity and respect to CHS residents while maintaining personal boundaries

·         Knowledge, use, and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances

·         Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components

·         Attention to detail and strong independent work ethic

·         Able to work a regular schedule and follow established call-off procedure

·         Valid PA driver’s license, access to reliable transportation and ability to pass agency driving record check and drive agency vehicles. 

·         Must be able to climb stairs, repeatedly lift up to 60lbs and perform all physical duties of the position
